Terms of Service

Welcome to Honest Bread ("we," "us," or "the site"), a community for learning the craft of bread baking. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website at bread.webfu.com and any content, features, or services offered through it. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use the site with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect accounts from children under 13; if we learn that we have, we will delete them.

2. Your account

You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password secure. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Your content and how it is licensed

Honest Bread is built on content submitted by members: bakes, recipes, photos, questions, answers, journal entries, reviews, and comments (collectively, "User Content").

  • You own your content. Posting on Honest Bread does not transfer ownership of anything you create.
  • You give us a license to show it. By posting, you grant Honest Bread a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example, resizing photos), publish, and display your User Content on the site and in materials that promote the site or its community (such as social media posts that link back to your post). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that remain in backups for a limited time or content that others have already shared.
  • You must have the rights to what you post. Only post photos you took and text you wrote, or material you have permission to share. Recipes you adapted from elsewhere should be written in your own words and credit the source.
  • You are responsible for your content. User Content reflects the views of the person who posted it, not ours. We do not endorse it and are not responsible for it.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, obscene, or that infringes anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights;
  • Post spam, scams, or undisclosed paid promotion;
  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download site content or member data without our written permission;
  • Interfere with the operation of the site, probe or breach its security, or use it to distribute malware.

5. Moderation

We may review, remove, or restrict any User Content or account at our discretion, including content flagged by members through the report feature, content that violates these Terms or the Community Guidelines, and content we are required to remove by law. We are not obligated to pre-screen content, and moderation decisions do not make us the author or publisher of member posts.

6. Copyright complaints

We respond to copyright takedown notices as described in our Copyright Policy. Accounts that repeatedly infringe will be terminated.

7. Baking advice disclaimer

Content on this site is shared by home bakers for educational and entertainment purposes. It is not professional food-safety advice. Follow safe food-handling practices, and use your own judgment about fermentation times, storage, and ingredients, especially regarding allergens. If you have a medical condition or allergy, consult a qualified professional before relying on any recipe posted here.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Honest Bread and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the site or from any User Content. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Honest Bread and its operators from claims arising out of your User Content or your violation of these Terms.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access for violations of these Terms. Sections 3, 8, and 9 survive termination.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If the changes are material, we will post a notice on the site or email account holders before they take effect. Continuing to use the site after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Oregon, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
